Officiating
The Third Team on the field
Match officials are essential for the safe and controlled playing of any sport, and lacrosse is no different.
Traditionally our officials have been ex-players wanting to stay actively involved in lacrosse or parents seeking to support their children in participating in the sport by facilitating fixtures and learning the rules of play.
Increasingly young people are adopting the role of match official for a variety of reasons. Officiating is a great way to keep fit, earn extra cash, and support our game. Officiating in the north west can also provide a pathway into international competition with many of our officials travelling the world to referee and umpire at the top level.
The NWLA prioritises the recruitment and development of lacrosse officials. We subsidise the training and mentoring of referees and umpires and encourage young people to recognise the opportunities available to them as match officials.

We are committed to supporting all officials in the North West to develop and grow through formal coaching, assessment as well as less formal buddy/mentoring. Please contact petersdavidson@yahoo.co.uk with any enquiries
